CAS-003 Exam - CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) CAS-003
CASP Certification Facts
CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) is a globally recognized vendor-neutral credential offered by CompTIA. It is awarded to IT professionals who have proved their advanced skills in providing system security solutions in an enterprise environment. A certified professional must be able to demonstrate how to expand the domain of an enterprise security and show the following skills:
- Securing enterprise architecture through the integrated cloud and virtualization technologies
- Providing security solutions to mobile and other small devices
- Implementing cryptographic techniques like block-chain and mobile encryption
An individual is required to have 10 years of professional experience in IT administration, five of these working as a technical security professional.
To qualify for CASP certification, an individual is required to pass one exam. There are two versions of the test available at the moment. They are Exam CAS-002 (retiring on 2nd October 2018) and Exam CAS-003 which was launched on 2nd April 2018. The updated CAS-003 version focuses on equipping professionals with skills to counter the current wave of cybersecurity attacks and latest hacking techniques and also how to deal with cloud migration. Either of these tests consists of 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions. The performance-based questions require the candidates to use simulations to prove their practical experience and skills. The exams mostly begin with these performance-based questions. The time allocated for completion of the test is 165 minutes. The exam fee is $439 if the registration and scheduling are done at Pearson Vue. CompTIA does not publish the passing score for CASP exams. A candidate receives a result that is either a pass or a fail. The results are made available immediately – they are displayed on the computer screen once the candidates submit their answers. One will also receive an email showing the pass or fail result without details on the exact score attained. Once you pass your test, you qualify to receive CASP Certification.
You must renew your CASP certification after three years. This is because IT is a dynamic field with new opportunities and challenges coming up by the day. It is important that you keep your credential up to date by taking part in the CompTIA program of Continuing Education (CE) so that you remain conversant with new system security challenges and the options taken to counter them. For the CE program, you can choose to either take the self-paced Cert Master course offered online or collect not less than 75 CE Units (CEUs) within a period of three years. You are required to upload these CEUs to your own certification account, and your CASP will be renewed automatically. The CEU activities include attaining a higher level of CompTIA certifications, passing the latest releases of CompTIA exams, or earning an IT credential that is not related to CompTIA. The professionals with more than one CompTIA certifications are required to only renew their higher-level credential and the lower-level credentials will be renewed automatically.
CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) is one of the most sought-after certifications in the cybersecurity field. If you possess this credential, you can expect more challenging work tasks and an immediate salary raise.
