RedHat RHCE Tests

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is one of the certifications offered by Red Hat and it is designed for systems experts who can apply their advanced administration skills on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system. This credential is designed for the professionals with RHCSA certification who wish to obtain a senior level credential, experienced systems administrators who wish to be certified, and also those who have gone through the required RHCE training. If you wish to go for any of the architect credentials such as RHCA: Cloud, RHCA: Data Center, RHCA: Application Platform, RHCA: Application Development, and RHCA: DevOps, then this is the entry point.

To earn RHCE credential, you must pass RHCSA EX200 exam as well as RHCE EX300 exam. However, you are allowed to sit for the RHCE test without having passed EX200 RHCSA. A certification, though, can only be issued once you have done and passed both tests. Training is not compulsory but highly recommended.

Prerequisites: you need to take RHCSA Rapid Track Course (RH199), which is targeted at UNIX or Linux administrators with experience of about three years. You can also take Systems Administration I, II, and III courses (RH124, RH134, and RH254), which are recommended for Windows administrators with some experience in Linux. A candidate with the equivalent experience is also allowed to sit for RHCE exam. Moreover, it is recommended that the candidates take RHCE Rapid Track Lab course (RH299) after they finish the classroom training and before they sit for their tests.

Exam Details: EX300 is a practical, performance-based exam that demands one to perform a number of tasks. The tasks are similar to the ones you can carry out on an actual job environment. This hands-on exam takes 3,5 hours. The cost of the test is $400 or 2 Training Units. You have two options to schedule to your exam:

- Online: the exam delivered to where you are
- In a classroom, with the supervision of an attendant proctor (or via the installed webcam)

To qualify for the credential, you must pass with a minimum score of 210 out of 300 points. The results are delivered by the Red Hat through the mail within two-three business days after the passing. There is no breakdown of the scores from each individual section of the exam. The electronic RHCE certification is sent with the results.

Re-certification: Red Heart certifications are valid for three years. To maintain it, you are required to pass RHCE EX300 exam again or pass any of RHCA certification tests. If you choose to obtain a higher-level credential, the dates of your RHCSA and RHCE credentials will be moved three years from the date you earned your new higher-level certification.
